About a few weeks ago, Libby was with me while I was putting on my make up. She likes to play along and put some makeup on herself. She is getting quite good. She watches me, then tries to copy what I do. While we were having a relaxing, quiet morning, she very sweetly said, "Mom, you put to much makeup on." I said, "Really, you think so?" Then she said, "Yeah, it is too dark." So I didn't make a big deal out of it. I remember thinking, oh how funny, but I know that I look good. I like a little dark on my eyes. So, I continued to apply makeup the way I always do everyday for a week. Then one morning while I was getting the kids ready to go somewhere. Libby, again very sweetly said, "Mom, why won't you listen to me?" I asked, "About what?" She replied, "Your makeup! It is still too dark!" So I laughed again and continued to apply the same old dark eye shadow the way I always do for another week. Finally, this morning I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, "Why not try eliminating the dark eye shadow today, just to see if she is right." Only a few minutes after I was finished putting my makeup on I saw Libby. The first words out of her mouth were (no joke), "Mommy, you listened to me!!" I said, "Yeah, I didn't put any dark eye shadow on today." And again she sweetly said, "And it looks a lot better. When I grow up, I'm going to wear light makeup."
I will always remember this story and I think it will come in handy some day.
